Day 4 of Forest School Training!

A mix of classroom and outdoor activities today, as we studied policies and procedures and discussed how children learn. We then practiced giving tool safety talks to each other.

This afternoon we were excited to discover the Forest School Fire Pit and even had the opportunity to redo some of the seating area, putting into practice the various knotting techniques we had learnt during the week. We can’t wait to involve the children and make our own seating area at our pre-school!

After all our hard work we were shown how to make mini pizza snacks on the fire as a treat!

Day 3 of Forest School Training!

Today we learnt the difference in the type of fauna, animals and insects in a coniferous and deciduous forest and explored both types. Then after lunch we foraged for kindling and lit our own fires! We were shown how to put out the fires safely and put back the woodland to how it was before we got there. We had lots of discussions and sharing ideas in the group about the endless activities we can introduce to the children and we can’t wait to get started!

Day 2 of Forest School Training!

Another great day in the forest today! We’ve loved learning to use different tools to make our own tent pegs; learnt about hazards, safety and how to minimise risks; put up different types of shelter; and carried out even more team building activities. We can’t wait to put the things we are learning into practice!

Forest School Training Begins!

Day 1 of our forest school training on the Blagdon Estate, Seaton Burn today and we’ve had so much fun! From discovering trees covered in the breaths of fairies (or dragon’s breath!), making our own fairy bracelets; sawing wood, making dens and making wooden photo frames! The list goes on! We can’t wait to see what the rest of the week holds!
